2013 Founder's Day Lecture "A Library of Last Resort: The Huntington in the 21st Century"

Thursday, February 21, 3:00 and 7:30 p.m. Henry E. Huntington in his New York library, ca. 1917. Seats are still available for this year's Founder's Day Lecture on Thursday, February 21, at 3:00 and 7:30 p.m. in Friends' Hall. Attendance is free and the lecture is open to the public; however, tickets are required. A champagne reception will follow each lecture. David Zeidberg, Avery Director of the Library, will share an overview and brief history of the library and the current trends in public and academic libraries. In the general move to digital resources, The Huntington is now distinguished as a “library of last resort” where researchers have access to original materials like rare books, manuscripts, photographs, and maps, as well as our own digital resources. In addition, he will address the role of the research library as a physical place for scholars to meet and exchange ideas.
