News and promotional events are picking up as we approach the Sept. 11 release of the new Dave Matthews Band album, Away From the World. Here’s everything you need to know between now and then:

  • Aug. 29: DMB releases the official video for “Mercy,” which features contributions from hundreds if not thousands of fans (including me!).
  • Aug. 30: The official Dave Matthews Band YouTube channel airs the first of 14 clips of an interview between Dave Matthews and Rodrigo Simas, founder of DMBrasil. A new clip will debut each day until Away From the World comes out.
  • Sept. 1: SiriusXM Radio launches Dave Matthews Band Radio, a new channel featuring live performances, band interviews and songs from Away From the World, introduced by DMB members themselves. The station goes on the air at 11 p.m. Eastern with a live broadcast of that night’s DMB concert from the Gorge.
  • Sept. 4: For the week leading up to the Away From the World release date, iTunes will offer a streaming preview of the album.
  • Sept. 11: Away From the World comes out.
  • Sept. 12: The Away From the World release party takes place at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Several websites and magazines have also published articles about the upcoming Away From the World release in recent days. Here are some of the best quotes from those interviews:

  • Steve Lillywhite: “Yes, [The Lillywhite Sessions] was a dark album, but to some of his fans, they think even the rough versions of those songs were very special, and I never got a chance to finish them. I’d like to at some point. I mentioned it.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
  • Dave: “[Lillywhite] enlightened me about my sort of cowardice and selfishness and how we went our separate ways. But other than that, it really was like old brothers and a great love affair. Because there weren’t any bad words. It doesn’t matter what was said in public back then. I don’t think I ever said anything bad about him, and I don’t pay enough attention to find out if he ever did about me, but he certainly had a right to.” (Gene Stout)
  • Tim Reynolds: “We started off recording with two acoustic guitars and then built the rhythm section on top of that. It is very different from the last album we put out. This album has a lot of heart to it. Not that the other records have not had a lot of heart but something about this record, it just has sweetness to it.” (Relix)
