Meeting DMB in Charlottesville

To contact us Click HERE

A week after meeting Dave Matthews in Chicago, I packed my bags and jetted off to Charlottesville to help many other adoring fans welcome Dave Matthews Band home.

I was excited to see my DMB friends from all around the country one last time before the New Year. The night before the first of two concert days, we met at the legendary Miller’s Downtown bar for a night of drinks and music.

As expected, Miller’s was completely packed with fans who had come from all over to eat, drink and be merry at the place where DMB began. Not long after arriving, we realized that Rashawn Ross and Jeff Coffin were expected to show up to play for a bit — something I was not planning on missing! I stepped outside for some fresh air and, sure enough, there was Rashawn chatting with five other fans. I went over to him and struck up conversation. I was surprised how reserved and quiet he was. He laughed and told me I was quite loud for such a small person — the opposite of him. Rashawn said he is still not used to all the attention he gets, and he isn’t sure he ever will be.

“I’m a lot like [LeRoi Moore] in that sense,” he said. “I don’t like attention, and neither did he. I try to keep to myself most of the time.”

Our conversation carried on for a bit longer but was interrupted when more fans became aware of his presence. He excused himself and went inside to play a few songs. Jeff Coffin had also joined the band at Miller’s. It was quite fascinating to see how small of a stage Miller’s had, compared to what DMB performs on.

After a few songs, Rashawn left and went back outside to talk to fans. Jeff had also wandered into the crowd. I was pleasantly surprised how laid back he seemed and how easy it was to have a conversation with him. We talked about the tour, his side projects, his spectacular beard and Away From the World.

“I really love playing Snow Outside,” he said. “Gosh, I’m such a chick!”

My weekend escape to Charlottesville was already shaping into one of those trips I would remember for a lifetime.

The next two days were filled with so much love, excitement and entertainment. As the weekend progressed, I was reminded how special the DMB community really is. The bond that we all share truly is incredible.

Sunday, after two phenomenal shows, I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye. My flight didn’t leave until 8 p.m., so a small group of us headed out to Dave Matthews’ Blenheim Vineyards for some wine tasting.

The drive to Blenheim was breathtaking. The rich history of Virginia spilled onto the roadsides, creating the illusion of traveling back in time as we curved in and around valleys, trees and forests. As the six of us tasted wine and enjoyed the final hours of each other’s company, I suddenly saw an all too familiar shadow making its way into the tasting tent: Dave!

He casually strolled into the tent full of fans and other guests and began chatting, drinking, signing autographs and taking photographs. Not long after, Jeff joined him. Our group was lucky enough to get a group photo with them both — the cherry on top of my special weekend in Charlottesville.

The experience served as the umpteenth reminder of why I love DMB so much. It’s not solely because of the music and lyrics. No, that is just the beginning. I am obsessed with the atmosphere of the shows, the waiting in line, the people you meet, the family you make and the love and respect you share with the band. I could not have asked for a better way to end my year with DMB.

Most of this summer’s openers have toured with DMB before, but one exception is Kool and the Gang, the iconic funk band whose hits include “Celebration,” “Get Down On It” and “Ladies Night,” which was popularized by famed wedding singer Jimmie Moore:

Tonight's blink-182 poster from Sydney Australia by Brandon Heart

To contact us Click HERE

It has been 8 long years for fans of blink 182 in Australia but tonight the wait pays off as the boys storm the nation. To make up for lost time, as well as performing at all 5 sold out Soundwave Festivals, the band will be bringing their monstrous live show to sideshows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne!

Brandon Heart got the honor for creating the poster for the first show tonight and it has some teeth to it.

The artist edition will be a purple colorway.  It will be up for sale today between 12pm & 1pm PST here http://heartwork.storenvy.com/products/1107692-blink-182-australia-2013-tour-poster
They will be signed and numbered and limited to 50 pieces.

I asked Brandon how he created the poster:

I simply wanted to do a interpretation of the title "Dogs Eating Dogs"
I also tried to capture some of the edge and darkness of the new e.p. while still keeping a little but of the fun.

Poster by Bryan Lee O'Malley and Kevin Tong. 24"x36" screen print with metallic inks. Signed by Bryan Lee O'Malley. Hand numbered. Edition of 425

Mondo will be releasing the regular version of Bryan Lee O'Malley and Kevin Tong's BATTLE ROYALE poster today. Mondo had fun re-analyzing the poster after watching BATTLE ROYALE at the Tugg screening they hosted in Houston, TX last weekend. Kevin provided the colors on the poster and Bryan illustrated every kill and pretty much every character from the movie down to Beat Takashi eating cookies (and the chicken!). The level of detail is amazing and again, D&L Screenprinting proves why they are the go to printers. BONUS! Bryan signed all of the regular editions before he left, so all posters will have his signature. You can see detail photos of the poster on the Mondo blog right HERE.

This poster will be available online at a random time on Thursday, February 21st at Mondotees.com

Free Friday Poster Giveaway Featuring KILLER KLOWNS and Jason Edmiston

To contact us Click HERE

Killer Klowns from Outer Space has been one of my favorite movies for years, I still remember renting it on VHS. Funny thing is I don't remember what made me pick it up to check out, but I'm glad I did. It is one of those B-Movie works of gold that either people loved or hated it. As silly as it was all the effects and weapons were hilarious and very well though out. With all the movie posters being made I really never thought anyone would do Killer Klowns. But Skuzzles made me do the happy dance when I saw they were releasing a fully licensed poster for the movie and had Jason Edmiston doing the art for it. This poster looks fantastic in person too.

I was really blown away when Skuzzles contacted me the other day and said hey you want to give one of these Klowns a new home. Of course I said YES since I love being able to give back to you my faithful readers.

So here it is folks Killer Klowns From Outer Space 25th Anniversary Poster that is 24" x 36" Inches. The giveaway will be for the blue regular edition of which only 165 were made.

Now go to the top of the post above the picture and click on comments or scroll down (depends on how you see this post) to leave a comment about who your Favorite Klown is to have a chance at winning the print. Don't worry if your comment does not appear immediately I have to approve them before they are published. I will use the random number generator to pick a winner. Entries are limited to ONE PER PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD. Please leave your name with the comment, comments without names will not be accepted. Entries will be accepted until midnight PDT Saturday February 23 that's almost two days to enter with the winner announced on Sunday.
