Away From the World to debut at No. 1 on Billboard album chart

Dave Matthews Band’s Away From the World will be No. 1 on next week’s Billboard album chart, making DMB the first band to have six consecutive albums debut in the top spot.

The projection comes from the Yahoo Music blog Chart Watch, where veteran music journalist Paul Grein says Away From the World will notch about 260,000 sales in its first week. If accurate, those numbers will mark a steep drop-off from Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, which sold 424,000 copies in its first week in 2009. The previous DMB album, 2005′s Stand Up, sold 465,000 copies in its first week.

The only other artists in Billboard’s history with at least five No. 1 album debuts are U2 and Metallica. The next Billboard album chart will come out Wednesday, Sept. 19; this week’s top spot goes to Matchbox Twenty’s North, the band’s first No. 1 album, which sold 95,000 copies.
