Tonight's Pearl Jam Poster from Oslo Norway by Chuck Sperry and Chris Shaw On Sale Details

To contact us Click HERE

As Pearl Jam's European tour winds down, tonight's poster is done by a couple of old school San Francisco artists Chuck Sperry and Chris Shaw. This collaboration series of posters has been great. Can't wait to see who Todd McFarlane is paired with tomorrow night.

Details from Chuck and Chris Shaw on how they created the poster

I teamed up with Chris Shaw to make Pearl Jam’s Oslo poster. Chris and I have both made Pearl Jam posters in the mid-1990′s. So Oslo’s Pearl Jam poster is a mix of New School and Old School Rock Poster Art.
Since the theme of the PJ tour posters are VS, we immediately thought of a Ying-Yang form as a good way to communicate that idea.
Then we thought of that crazy “Norway Spiral” that filled the night sky over Norway a couple years back (because we both love unexplained and mysterious phenomena like that, even if it was probably a Russian rocket spinning out of control).

We gave it a psychedelic edge by making a Ying-Yang out of the form of the Norway Spiral, and creating two flying eyeballs, representing the opposing forces of Fire and Water. We wanted this poster to have a touch of skater punk, Psychedelia, and to just be iconic and bad-ass.

The small, subtle, silver spirals in the background, not only mirrors the Ying-Yang of the central image, but is inspired by Rosemalling, which is a Norwegian folk-art of decorative painting. This form of decoration originated in the rural valleys of Norway during the Baroque and Rococo Period in the mid 18th Century. It was a folk response to the intricate designs the wealthy folks in Norway were importing. The forms are usually simple and based on “C” and “S” forms. That seemed appropriate since Chris Shaw and Chuck Sperry are both “CS” names

Chris and Chuck both are releasing their Signed and Numbered, Artist Editions, on ChuckSperry.net.

They’ll making a very limited online release of the Signed and Numbered, Artist Editions of this poster here on Monday, July 16, 2012 at a random time.

WELLINGTON— A New Zealand judge granted bail to Megaupload.com executives Bram van der Kolk and Finn Batato as they await possible extradition to the U.S. on charges including copyright infringement, after the judge decided they posed a minimum flight risk.

Mr. Van der Kolk, 29 years old, and Mr. Batato, 38, were arrested Thursday in Auckland along with Megaupload.com founder Kim Dotcom, 38, and Mathias Ortmann, 40, the chief technical officer, after they and four colleagues were named in a Federal Bureau of Investigation indictment.

Authorities say Megaupload Ltd., based in Hong Kong, and its collection of websites generated more than $175 million in criminal proceeds and caused more than half a billion dollars in harm to copyright owners.

Judge David McNaughton said in a written decision that both men posed a minimum risk of fleeing and those risks could be offset by appropriate bail conditions.

He added he had taken into account the U.S. government's concerns over Van der Kolk's bail application, particularly given his role as chief programmer at the company.

"However, as noted in my earlier decision the possibility of reviving the business from another site outside the jurisdiction of the United States is a factor completely outside the Court's control," he said.

Mr. Dotcom's bail application was turned down Wednesday due to concerns he would try to flee the country, but his lawyers appealed the decision. A decision on Mr. Ortmann's bail application is expected Friday afternoon in New Zealand.

A hearing on the possible extradition of the four men is likely to be many months away.

Megaupload and similar online storage sites, known as cyberlockers, have many legitimate uses, such as allowing people to share large presentation files and home movies. But U.S. authorities and entertainment executives say in court documents and interviews that cyberlockers are at the vanguard of online piracy.

"The Third Jihad"-- a radical anti-Muslim movie

Technically, it’s an anti-Muslim propaganda film that was shown on a “continuous loop” to NYPD recruits and other officers. According to the New York Times, it’s called The Third Jihad and was used for training purposes. I guess it’s easier for cops to spy on a certain segment of the population if they consider them the enemy.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly admitted through a top aide Tuesday that he cooperated with filmmakers of "The Third Jihad"-- a radical anti-Muslim movie, which was screened for almost 1,500 officers during counter-terrorism training in 2010.

Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne confirmed to The New York Times that Kelly took part in an interview with the film's director, Erik Werth, in 2007. Browne also said Kelly expressed regret at the decision.

"Commissioner Kelly told me today that the video was objectionable," Browne said, "and that he should not have agreed to the interview five years ago, when I recommended it."

Browne and Kelly only admitted their involvement in the film after producer Raphael Shore emailed The Times and provided a date and time of the interview.

Tom Robbins of the Village Voice originally reported the department's involvement with The Third Jihad, which asserts that most American Muslims are involved in promoting terror, after hearing that cops were made to watch the film.

Responding to Robbins' article, the NYPD initially said the film was "mistakenly screened a couple of times." A Freedom of Information request by the Brennan Center for Justice, however, revealed the film had been shown "on a continuous loop" for up to a year of training for nearly 1,500 officers.

The NYPD said a sergeant, unbeknownst to Kelly and Browne, independently screened the film for officers. The sergeant has since been disciplined, according to Browne.

Mayor Bloomberg said Tuesday the police department used "terrible judgement" in screening the film. The criticism is curious however, as Bloomberg has previously defended the department's exposed secret program to gather intelligence on Muslim neighborhoods across the city.

The trailer for The Third Jihad is below. For more, go here.

Give Me All Your Luvin' feat. M.I.A. & Nicki .. - lyrics

L-U-V Madonna
Y-O-U You wanna
I see you coming and I don’t wanna know your name
L-U-V Madonna
I see you coming and you’re gonna have to change the game
Y-O-U You wanna
Would you like to try?
Give me a reason why
Give me all that you got
Maybe you’ll do fine
As long as you don’t lie to me
And pretend to be what you’re not

Don’t play the stupid game
Cause I’m a different kind of girl
Every record sounds the same
You’ve got to step into my world
Give me all your love and give me your love
Give me all your love today
Give me all your love and give me your love
Let’s forget about time
And dance our lives away

L-U-V Madonna
Y-O-U You wanna
Keep trying don’t give up, it’s if you want it bad enough
L-U-V Madonna
It’s right in front of you, now tell me what you’re thinking of
Y-O-U You wanna
In another place, at a different time
You can be my lucky star
We can drink some wine
Burgundy is fine
Let’s drink the bottle every drop

Don’t play the stupid game
Cause I’m a different kind of girl
Every record sounds the same
You’ve got to step into my world
Give me all your love and give me your love
Give me all your love today
Give me all your love and give me your love
Let’s forget about time
And dance our lives away

You have all the L-U-V
I gave you everything you need
Now it’s up to Y-O-U
Are you the one, shall we proceed?

Don’t play the stupid game
Cause I’m a different kind of girl
Every record sounds the same
You’ve got to step into my world
Give me all your love and give me your love
Give me all your love today
Give me all your love and give me your love
Let’s forget about time

Oklahoma State basketball saturday game

Not even 5-foot-9 Keiton Page, nothing was going to stop No. 7 Kansas in the first half. The senior guard for Oklahoma State tried setting a screen on Thomas Robinson, the Jayhawks' 6-foot-10, 237-pound forward, who steamrolled right over him.

Page said, "That was the game plan going in, for me to set more screens, he got a hold of me over in front of the Kansas bench. It didn't feel too good." That pretty much summed up the first half Saturday, when Page scored 10 of his 19 points. Kansas held a commanding 51-24 lead heading into the locker room, and withstood a big second-half comeback by the Cowboys for an 81-66 win.

"We've been through this before, we've been punched in the mouth before. Our guys didn't like the taste of it at halftime." said Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford.

THE CHARISMA OF Whitney Houston

To contact us Click HERE
Fans and admirers gathered on Sunday to celebrate the life of Whitney Houston and mourn her passing a day after she died in a Beverly Hills hotel at the New Jersey church where her singing career first took flight. Cards and flowers were tied to the railings of the New Hope Baptist Church, and congregants hugged and cried at the entrance. It was in this large but modest looking, red-brick house of worship on a quiet backstreet near downtown Newark where Houston's career began as a soloist in a gospel choir in the 1970s.

"Newark loves you and will always love you. We are all heartbroken," said Jacqueline Kimble, 45, who has been coming to the church all her life and remembers Houston there. "She was our jewel. This is a sad day for Newark and the whole world."

"This is a very sad day," said Cynthia Williams, 47, who attended early morning worship at New Hope, held in memory of Houston. "It is a great loss to Newark."

Rocio Marron releases solo album

To contact us Click HERE
Veteran of the Latin and pop music scene, classically-trained violinist Rocio Marron launches her first self-titled solo album and new music video for the song Leaving Dreams. Having spent years backing major musical acts, Marron spent a year writing and recording the album inspired by her family and personal experiences.

“For years, I’ve enjoyed playing and interpreting other people’s music,” said Marron. “Now I had the chance to write the music that had been inside me waiting to be recorded. I had to look no further than my own experiences and love of family to find the inspiration and words to create this album.”

Rocio Marron, released in November 2011, represents the kind of poetic musical stylings and poignant lyrics she hopes will linger in people’s minds. The songs in this debut album draw from Marron’s own life, and are designed to touch the listener with relatable lyrics and soothing melodies. With songs like Heartaches Will Mend, Promise You, and Should Have Waited, Marron’s lyrics deal with the loss, discovery, and overwhelming feelings of love. “The deepest feeling of unconditional love I ever felt was when my daughter was born,” said Marron. “Motherhood has brought a whole different perspective on life and priorities. It amazes me that it has made me feel so much, to the point of wanting to share it with everyone.”

Marron put her multiple talents both in front of and behind the microphone composing, singing, and playing instruments including the violin, viola, and guitar on this album. She also arranged and engineered the tracks along with longtime collaborator Dante Pascuzzo.

Her first video from this album, Leaving Dreams was produced and directed by Eddie Arguelles of Tochtli Films and is now on her YouTube page youtube.com/rociomarron. “The song deals with the loss of love and realization that one must move on. It’s that moment when you realize that it’s the best thing to do for yourself,” said Marron. The video is set in an abandoned Victorian home signifying the end of a relationship and an vibrant outdoor dried creek signifying a rebirth. “Where once you felt safe at home with a partner, now there is an empty feeling surrounded by darkness. It’s not until you search for a way out that you find the light and are able to move forward,” said Marron. Her next solo album is set to be released in November 2012.

She has traveled the world and has been drawn to the power of her own personal truth by way of discovering the struggles of her ancestors, her fellow black men and women and her own personal “Blackness.”

KELLEY WILLIAMS says of her show, “LOVIN’ CHOCOLATE” is my struggle for my liberation, the liberation of an essential aspect of myself. Chocolate is closely based off of my own experiences, my life and the women that have shared a very different experience than me.”

Kelley continues, “Lovin’ Chocolate” is a journey, an exploration of not solely Blackness, but “self.” I didn’t realize or even think that “Lovin’ Chocolate” would have an emotional effect on anyone except Black women. That’s who I wrote it for. It wasn’t until after my first performance of the show that a young white woman said to me with tears in her eyes ,” I know that you wrote this piece for Black women but I was deeply touched by your words and I felt like you were speaking to me. I know what it feels like to not love the woman in your mirror.” I was speechless, left completely humbled. I didn’t realize that in telling my story, in speaking from my pain, my struggles, my joys and my life, all kinds of people could relate regardless of their skin color, age, gender, etc.”

LOVIN’ CHOCOLATE will be presented on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 8:00 pm and Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 4:00 pm at PORTICOS ART SPACE located on the campus of the St. James United Methodist Church at 2033 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91104. Tickets are $10.00. Doors open 30 minutes before show time. For more information or to buy tickets go to www.porticosartspace.org/ or call (323) 333-2487.

Dave Matthews Band played “The Riff,” another song from Away From the World, for the first time last night in Camden, New Jersey.

“The Riff” is the sixth track on the new DMB album, which was just announced yesterday. It’s also the song that includes the lyrics “away from the world.” The song starts slow and quiet but soon turns into the heaviest of the five Away From the World songs fans have heard so far.

Last night’s concert in Camden also featured the tour debut of “Shotgun.” Here’s video of the new DMB song “The Riff” from the show:

Can you say excited? Oh yeah, I am sooo looking forward to the weekend! But I digress...

Last weekend I babied my knee (which is feeling pretty good now) and cleaned my home. I went through all my books and CDs and sorted out the things I don't get too often enough or I wanted others to enjoy. The result was more than eight boxes set to go for donation!

My friends Dean and Andrew came over to help with the hefting part of things and I was able to make my space look very different. I'll admit it- I had a few stacks of books and CDs on the floor because I was out of room. Now there's nothing on the floor and tons more space. I could rearrange my living room any way I want... but that's for another day. And we deep cleaned throughout so my place sparkles and not just from my glitter.

Tuesday I went to the Arcadia Museum of History to learn about its upcoming exhibit on lace. I marveled at the intricacy of some of the pieces- many of which were handmade. It's actually quite interesting, especially when you get into the historical aspects of the craft.

Wednesday night I took those eight boxes plus to the Baldwin Park Library, where I was greeted with big smiles. They will use what they can and sell the rest to get what they need. I feel good helping spread literacy and knowledge, as well as a little fun.

Thursday I interviewed Michael Dorn (Worf of "Star Trek"). He will be appearing in "As You LIke It" on stage in a garden in Los Angeles. He had a lovely voice and was gracious and funny too. Watch for my story in a couple of weeks at http://www.sgvn.com/

In the evening I went to 3ality Technica (http://www.3alitytechnica.com/ ) in Burbank to learn about 3D film technology. I watched a selection of film, including U2 performing "Sunday Bloody Sunday," trailers for "Spider-Man," "Prometheus" and the new Katy Perry movie, plus slices from a Russian war film, Black Eyed Peas and Kenny Chesney concerts and more. The movies were amazing, as you felt as if you were in them rather than just watching.

After the screening there was a panel discussion about 3D applications in the music industry. We also got a peek at Katy Perry's upcoming "Labyrinth" music video, which was awesome! I'm curious to see if things will change the way the 3ality Technica people think they will... only time will tell.

This morning I spoke with singer/songwriter Penny Nichols ( http://www.pennynichols.com/ ) , who has just released "Colors of the Sun: Penny Nichols sings the early songs of Jackson Browne." She will be performing two shows July 15 at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena http://www.coffeegallery.com/

Thought o' the week: Think cathartic. It was healing in many ways for me to clean out my house.

First of all, the energy I expended to do the tasks got my endorphins flowing, which is good for your moods, plus I got some good exercise and my body felt happy. When I finished, there was space and light as opposed to feeling almost suffocated by things. And the feeling of spreading good around with my donations added to my joy.

I can also look at cleaning house another way- a sort of spiritual and emotional movement. Making my environment less stressful offers me an opportunity to take stock in my life during the tasks and to reset my attitude once I'm done. It's a cleansing of self if you allow it to be.

There are other ways we can cleanse our lives, such as taking time for a walk on a busy day, chatting with a friend after work or singing loudly with your favorite CD. And though these things may not be as dramatic, whether you are concious of it or not, they all add up for a healing effect. I'm feeling peaceful now and ready to let the happiness I deserve flow back in. Deep breath.. in a word... think what's cathartic for you?

Keep on rockin'

The California Art Club unveils Monumental Miniatures III at its gallery located
at “El Molino Viejo,” an architectural landmark in the San Gabriel Valley.

The display of more than 50 works is the Club’s third exhibition in the last decade
to feature small original paintings, each no larger than 8 by 10 inches. While some
of these miniatures were created as studies for larger-scaled works, they stand on
their own, capturing the artists’ first impressions that drew them to their subjects,
which range from scenic vistas to figures and still lifes.

The participating artists in Monumental Miniatures III are all Signature Artist
Members of the Club, the most esteemed category of membership for artists,
and include many of the country’s most renowned contemporary-traditional fine artists.

George Mann just might be the most interesting Los Angeles
photographer you've never heard of. His color scenes of the lost Victorian
neighborhood of Bunker Hill, taken just before it was demolished fifty years
ago in a misguided urban renewal project, have transformed our understanding
of downtown through their presentation on the On Bunker Hill history blog.

Now on Bunker Hill and LAVA- The Los Angeles Visionaries Association are
delighted to announce the debut Los Angeles gallery exhibition of the
photographic work of the late George Mann (1905-1977). Mann's rediscovered
color images of mid-century Los Angeles are astonishing, and a must see for
anyone who loves the city and wants to know it better.

The exhibit of George Mann's Lost Bunker Hill opens at Gary Leonard's Take
My Picture Gallery for the Downtown Art Walk on Thursday, July 12, followed
by a signing for Jim Dawson's brand new book "Los Angeles's Bunker Hill:
Pulp Fiction's Mean Streets and Film Noir's Ground Zero!" on Saturday, July
14. George Mann's photos of Bunker Hill will be on view at the gallery
during regular hours and by appointment, and framed prints are available for
$100/each. Call 213-622-2256 for more info.

JULY 12 OPENING - http://lavatransforms.org/mann7122012

July 12 event (7-9pm): During the Downtown Art Walk, join On Bunker Hill
bloggers Richard Schave (Esotouric bus adventures) and Nathan Marsak (author
of "Los Angeles Neon"), and Bunker Hill native son Gordon Pattison--whose
family owned the last two iconic Victorians left on Bunker Hill, The Salt
Box and The Castle--for an informal presentation and Q&A on the rise and
fall of downtown's most beguiling residential neighborhood, from the
mansions of silver kings to the era of grand hotels, the rooming house
years, the looming threat of redevelopment, the fight to save Angels Flight,
the evictions (Bunker Hill is the largest eminent domain land grab in
American history), the hill's flattening, the slow process of redevelopment
and how Bunker Hill still resonates in the imagination almost fifty years
later. On Bunker Hill blog creator Kim Cooper (Esotouric bus adventures)
will also be present to answer questions about George Mann's 3-D
photographic viewing machines and the rediscovery of his photographs. The
presentation will begin at 7:30pm and repeats at 8:30pm.

JULY 14 BOOK SIGNING - http://lavatransforms.org/mann7142012

July 14 event (6-10pm): Join writer Jim Dawson as he signs copies of his new
book "Los Angeles's Bunker Hill: Pulp Fiction's Mean Streets and Film Noir's
Ground Zero!" (The History Press, 2012). Also present during some or all of
the evening and available to answer your questions will be George Mann's
daughter-in-law and keeper of his archive Dianne Woods, On Bunker Hill
bloggers Richard Schave and Kim Cooper, and Bunker Hill native son Gordon
Pattison.

ABOUT BUNKER HILL, the ON BUNKER HILL blog and GEORGE MANN:

Bunker Hill in the 1870s was early Los Angeles' most distinguished address,
an enclave of grand Victorians, gorgeous gardens and clear-skied views out
to Catalina and beyond. By the 1910s the wealthy had moved on, and the
Hill's mansions became rooming houses. Up on the Hill, life moved at a
different pace. Writers Raymond Chandler, John Fante and Charles Bukowski
came and were captivated by the place. Painters Leo Politi, Kay Martin and
Millard Sheets made its rotting hotels and sad-eyed residents the subject of
their art. And down at City Hall, planners schemed about how Bunker Hill
could be declared a slum, its old houses pulled down, its people moved
along, leaving a blank slate where skyscrapers could grow. By 1970, Bunker
Hill was a field of dirt. In 2008, the time travel bloggers of
1947project.com turned their attention to Bunker Hill. Over a year, the blog
grew into a house-by-house survey of the great old downtown residential
neighborhood that was demolished to create the high rise district that
shares its name, but none of its charms. The blog's contributors, including
authors, historians, librarians and tour guides, delved deep into historic
archives to uncover the most fascinating tales of more than a century of
life on Bunker Hill. 1947project is the brainchild of Kim Cooper, pop music
historian ("Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth"), tour guide (Esotouric bus
adventures) and preservation activist (Save the 76 Ball). She was joined ON
BUNKER HILL by author Nathan Marsak, LAPL history librarian Mary McCoy,
Esotouric's Joan Renner, LAPL photo collections manager Christina Rice,
Esotouric's Richard Schave and author John Toomey.

George Mann's Los Angeles photos were discovered in his archives by
daughter-in-law Dianne Woods in 2010. While researching the images, she
found the On Bunker Hill blog, and offered to let the blog feature Mann's
Bunker Hill images, online and in archival prints for sale. Since then,
Mann's family has also shared with On Bunker Hill some of the short films he
made featuring fellow Vaudevillians like The Three Stooges and W.C. Fields,
and dozens of photos of landmark Los Angeles restaurants.

Born in Santa Monica in 1905, by his early 20s George Mann was a vaudeville
star as the hilariously taller half of the comedy dance team Barto & Mann.
Of their east coast debut, "Zit's Theatrical Newspaper" raved "Ten minutes
before they went on at the Palace last Monday afternoon nobody thought very
much about Barto & Mann; ten minutes after they came off stage, the whole
Broadway world was talking about them." As Vaudeville faded, Barto & Mann
joined the Broadway cast of "Hellzapoppin" with featured billing from 1938
through 1942. The team split up in December 1943.

In his post-performance life, George Mann turned his imagination to
entrepreneurial enterprise and professional photography, which brought him
to Bunker Hill. In the late 1950s, when the neighborhood's days were known
to be numbered, he arrived atop the peak with his camera to document some
representative scenes, returning in November 1962 for additional shots.
These long forgotten color images of old Bunker Hill were originally
displayed in 3-D viewers of Mann's own design, which were leased to various
Los Angeles restaurants, bars and doctor's offices. Mann would swap out the
photo selection every two weeks, so if these evocative scenes of Bunker Hill
weren't available, one might peep at Calico Ghost Town, Catalina Island,
Descanso Gardens, Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Pacific Ocean Park, Watts
Towers or Palm Springs.

In his Bunker Hill set, created to distract anxious patients and hungry
tourists, George Mann captured a seldom seen side of this lost Los Angeles
neighborhood: the gracious avenues and genteel decay, the old people, their
cats and their gardens, abandoned newspapers, vacant lots, the shadows and
the sunlight. We are in his debt.

To see George Mann's rediscovered Los Angeles photographs and learn about
his fascinating career that took him and his diminutive sidekick Dewey Barto
(real-life pop of TV's "Rhoda's" mom Nancy Walker) from the stages of west
coast vaudeville to the Great White Way, visit all the On Bunker Hill blog's

August 6th marks the 50th Anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence and VP Records is celebrating with the island's iconic music. On July 31, the label will release an extensive 3 CD set Out Of Many, 50 Years Of Reggae Music - chronicling the genre's evolution with an iconic hit from each year since 1962. To coincide with this release and commemoration, VP recently launched a Facebook page for the "50 Days to Jamaica 50th" countdown:

The page features a daily post on the history of Jamaican music and pays homage to the country's most iconic artists, producers and engineers - similar to the Out Of Many - 50 Years of Reggae Music release.
